Vegetarian Christmas Dinner

Here's my simple, budget-friendly but tasty 'traditional' vegetarian Christmas Day menu. If you have to oven-share with turkey eaters, these ideas don't take up too much room in the oven and can be covered with foil if you need to protect them from contamination!

The recipes can be scaled up or down depending on how many veggies you need to cater for and I have included vegan options when appropriate. All of the recipes can be made in advance and reheated on the day (except the truffles, of course!)...and don't forget the crackers!
 

Menu

Bucks Fizz (made with champagne/cava & good quality orange juice for the adults
or lemonade & orange juice for the kids).

Starter: Goat's Cheese & Cranberry Tarts served with port and cranberry sauce
and a side salad.

Main Course: Nut Roast or Vegetable and Almond Loaf served with vegetarian gravy, roast potatoes & parsnips, runner beans and purple sprouting broccoli (sprouts optional!)
OR
Stuffed Butternut Squash with tomato sauce, roast potatoes and seasonal vegetables.

Dessert: Christmas Pudding served with cream, custard or brandy butter.

Coffee and Chocolate Truffles.



*My top tips for turkey eaters who are entertaining vegetarians at Christmas: Please remember to omit or check for animal fat/suet and animal by-products in stuffing, mincemeat/mince pies, Christmas puddings and gravy. Most vegetarians avoid cheese made with rennet (eg parmesan), gelatine and certain food additives, especially E120 (cochineal/carmine). If in doubt (or if you really don't care!), please ask your veggie guests to bring their own food.

  1. Sounds delicious - I have to confess I love brussel sprouts - I'm pretty sure I'm going to make your goats cheese and cranberry tarts.
